Back in the 2000's, as Apple struggled to turn around and resurrect the sinking ship, the OSX Launch event was a landmark moment. Those of us tied in some way to the corporate effort attended a high-end celebration at Moffett Field, inside the large hanger that's now just a skeletal remain. It was an epic evening and all I could do to resist sneaking past the roped off access to the framework stairwells and ascend to the top. Something I would still love the opportunity to do.Dan, James, Cheryl, Julie... we were all there.... as was Matthew, or "Thew" as we affectionately called him. Thew was the penultimate mac-fan. He practically leapt over the table at the interview out of sheer excitement and zeal for the chance to work at Apple. He, like Julie, "bled six colors" and both were a part of my earliest years there.
I stashed away these commemorative shirts we received for, well, about 17 years based on the date on the back. And recently unearthed them, slightly yellowed from sun exposure during storage in a garage by a window, but still pristine in all other ways.
Thew was prone to wear this, or one of the several other "OSX" shirts distributed over the course of a few years, and I associate this specific shirt and image with him, and him alone. Other's had it, others wore it, but Matthew made it his own.
So, when I found it, I sent him this photo and then... one of the shirts. I'm wearing mine now. I'm hoping it brings back great memories of a great time at a great company through its resurrection.
