When I got to my car one of the two headlights was out. And each drive home this week is accompanied by the recollection of having been stopped by the police recently for not having current registration, a situation due to the fact that between the demand of work and home, I've not found the time necessary to get a frickin' smog certificate.
Oh, and there's only one shopping day left and I've nothing for my wife for Christmas.
On the flip side, an ambulance just went past me in the other direction, and I wasn't in it. A car crash blocked an intersection yesterday, a crash I might have been in had I made it out of the office 1 minute earlier. And with all of the uncertainty in the world right now, I have enough skill, experience and confidence to believe that no matter what might happen, I and my family will be fine.
It's not always easy to maintain a balanced perspective. I can go through my day getting frustrated by waiting for the cable guy, the demands of my job, technological glitches trying to print a simple mailing label, and any number of other minor inconveniences that ultimately, in the greater scheme of things, means nothing. Absolutely nothing. But what I do with it, does.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
