Finally, some 40+ years later, I got to see Jeff Lynne"s ELO perform live. I was introduced to Electric light Orchestra by Sally Jaramillo. In my sophomore year of high school. She loved ELO and convince me to buy "OlΓ© ELO". I subsequently wore that record down, and others to follow including "Face the Music" and "El Dorado". Then came their breakthrough "A New World Record" and the diverse and spanning "Out of the blue". I would crank the volume up with my headphones on in my bedroom while scouring the liner notes and cover art. ELO was a milestone of my youth. It was surprising at the concert how much I recognized the influence of the Beatles more than I ever did before. His use of strings in the layers of music in tonight's performance echo"d the likes of "Magical Mystery Tour", "I Am the Walrus" and "Penny Lane". It was strikingly similar. "10538 Overture" is a great case study.
As for the performance of the band, it was absolute precision ... almost to a fault. It was flawless. The sound was perfect too. This incarnation has got their repertoire down.
