<a href=http://www.snarc.net/pda/pda-treatise.htm>The history of
PDAs</a><br>I stumbled across this on Slashdot today and found it
very entertaining. Having had my father working at HP when the first
handheld calculator's were "a revolution" (he honestly, and
earnestly, tried once to teach me to use a sliderule :-), and
watching the trend migrate to large electronic address books and
planners all the way to the Newton, Palm Pilot, and now my Treo cell
phone, it's refreshing to look back. It's even more invigorating to
look ahead, remembering that the incredibly innovative technology we
use now [the PDA, laptop, cell phone, ipod, etc] will be just as
laughable in 30 years as the first HP calculator is today, or as the
Newton [still an awesome device IMHO] is when you realize it was an
innovation 10 years ago and considered a 'brick' by today's standards.
